The town of Clifden itself is also a wonderful place for sophisticated retail therapy. The best of Irish designers can be found at The Platform. Many antique and interior design shops and art galleries offer an afternoon of fun. Griffin's Pub renowned for its sports atmosphere is the place to watch rugby or football. If you want to watch the world go by sit in E J King's window tables and enjoy life at Market Square. The thriving city of Galway and Westport are only an hour away by car. For sightseeing Connemara is incomparable from the towering cliffs of the Aran Islands with its great Celtic forts at Dun Aongus to the last great bog terrain at Roundstone, the Connemara National Park with its herds of Connemara ponies and red deer, the magnificent Kylemore Abbey and Ireland's only fjord at Killary. Clifden, the capital of Connemara, is a truly welcoming town which boasts a superb selection of traditional Irish pubs, excellent restaurants and interesting craft shops. It is spectacularly perched high above the deep sides of the boulder-strewn estuary of the Owenglin river. The lovely Market Square in the centre of Clifden seems to open out to take in the fresh air from the mountains and the Atlantic. In the Clifden area there is a wealth of activities including golf, walking, swimming, scuba diving and exploring the beautiful countryside. By night, Clifden comes alive with music and fun in the traditional Irish pubs and excellent seafood restaurants. The atmosphere in Clifden is electric during the annual Connemara Pony Show and the prestigious and lively Arts Festival. Beaches and Water Sports There are seven beaches within a short distance of Clifden Glen. To the south you have Ballyconneely Bay, Mannin Bay, Dog's Bay and Gorteen Bay and to the north you have Cleggan, Augros, Omey and Glassilaun beaches. Scuba Dive West is located at Gassilaun. The Clifden Boat Club on the Beach Road with it friendly atmosphere welcomes sailors and land lubbers and is within walking distance of Clifden. Relaxing Therapies Beauty and other relaxing holistic treatments, such as aromatherapy and Ayurvedic body therapy, are available in a range of local centres such as Reflections and Sli Nua. Club House and Reception Our club house is located in the original Clifden Lodge and it is a licensed premises open at appropriate times. Our estate reception is located beside the club house. Outdoor Facilities Our guests have use of three tennis courts, mini-golf, childrens' playground
and the football "kick-a-bout" area and our river walk. The Lodges The three bedroomed detached lodges accommodate five people comfortably and extend to approximately 83 square metres. The main en-suite bedroom is located downstairs with a twin bedroom and a single bedroom and bathroom on the first floor. The living/dining and kitchen area features an open fireplace. Each of the lodges is double glazed with electric central heating. The Cottages The one bedroomed cottage apartment suites include a sitting room and kitchenette and extend to just over 40 square metres. The cottages were designed to allow for an attic conversion which is subject to planning approval. Each of the lodges is double glazed with electric central heating.
